This was a project for Parnassia group in my second year of Industrial Design Engineering. Parnassia group is an organization that offers specialist help for all psychological problems
The goal was to get rid of labelling from people who are in need of mental health care, to achieve succes with as little professional help as possible in a self-chosen living environment. One of the main purpose was to learn people that everyone is different and to embrace diversity. We designed the Playwall for the future where children can easily play together in the schoolyards of primary school. With Playwall children are taught different emotions and learn how to recognize them. The idea behind this is that when kids are taught about emotions and learn that it is normal to be open about them, they will use this naturally when growing up. In the end the stigma around mental healthcare will be removed.

The idea behind The Playwall is that it is an interactive curved wall which can determine emotions of the children. When someone puts their hand on the wall, their emotion is determined and the wall will light up in a random color. Children with the same emotion get the same color. The colors do, however, not correspond to a certain emotion. When two children touch the Playwall, two circles with different or same colors appear. This shows the children that someones emotion is the same or different than his or herself. They can talk about it and choose a game that they can play together on the Playwall. This concept lets children play games with each other while simultaneously learning about the emotions of others. The Playwall stimulates working together and talking to each other in order to complete the games.
